From the passage above, you will see that Elijah asked Elisha for the real reason why he was following him. He asked Elisha to say exactly what he actually wanted from following hard after the anointing. Elisha made it clear that what he needed was the instrument of his destiny – the double portion of the anointing. And until he got it, nothing that the devil brought on his way could stop or distract him.

One major factor that will determine how far every Christian will go in the Lord and in the things of God is what their real pursuit is as they follow the Lord. Everyone who is following the Lord is doing so because of something. You may be following the Lord because of material things, you may be following Him for the anointing you want to receive from Him or you may follow Him because you want Him and nothing but Him. If there is any other motivation other than you wanting to be like Him, the moment He gives you what you are looking for, that thing will definitely become a snare in the hand of the devil to stop you.

Let me show you a secret today, as you progress in your walk with the Lord, there are different offers that the Lord will allow to come your way and if you do not know exactly what you are following the Lord for, if you have not disciplined your heart and set righteous boundaries for yourself in life, it is possible for the enemy to use what God has given you to stop you. It was the things that God gave to Solomon the Son of David while he was following the Lord that the enemy used to stop him because he did not set the Lord as his primary desire, goal and pursuit.

This was a major mistake that Samson made as he started out in life. He perceived that the hand of the Lord was upon him and he did not bother to care about any other thing. But when you look at the life of Samuel as a child, you will see that his case was different from that of Samson.

Prayer: Lord search my heart and my motive for following you and purge me of any wrong motive that will make the enemy use what God has given me to stop me.
