Ask what I shall do for thee (2)

1 Samuel 2: 11, 18, 21 & 26; 2 Samuel 3:1, 19

Bible in a year: Jeremiah 26:1-27:22, 2 Thessalonians 3:1-18, Psalm 85:1-13, Proverbs 25:16
If you look at the passages above well, you will see some progressions in the life of Samuel the prophet as he was coming up in the thing of God. He started out by ministering unto the Lord. The Lord alone was his pursuit and desire. His commitment to the Lord while serving in the temple was what kept him from the pollution of the sons of Eli. Like Gehazi (2 Kings 5) they have allowed the devil to open their eyes to the privileges of the ministry but not so for Samuel. In Chapter 2 verse 11, the Bible says he ministered unto the Lord and as it were, nothing came out of it. But in verse 18 while he continued ministering to the Lord, a linen ephod was added.

Do you know he did not allow the linen ephod to stop him just as the loss of the coat of many colours could not stop Joseph. By verse 21 and 26 he was growing up spiritually, developing in things of God and the Lord began to add divine favour to his life. But can you see the interesting thing about the life of Samuel; he did not allow the blessings that come with divine favour to stop his pursuit of God. When you get to Chapter 3 verse 1, the Bible says that he was still ministering to the Lord. He was still servicing on a strong note, his relationship with the Lord. By verse 19 of chapter 3, the fullness of the destiny of God for Samuel had started manifesting. He did not at any time allow the intermediate offers of God to stop him.

As soon as the anointing of the Lord began to manifest upon Samson, he never bothered at all about anything called fellowship with the Lord. You will never see it written anywhere that Samson was involved in a consistent life of fellowship with the Lord. He got the anointing and he stopped at that. He completely forgot that the most important thing is our relationship with the one who anoints.  I want to counsel you today; that you will make the Lord alone your desire, your goal and your destination. Let Him be your life pursuit. Discipline your heart and live your life in such a way that the devil will not be able to use anything that God has given you or that God will give you to stop you in your pursuit of God. Do not be a faithful unto brethren, brethren that will stop following the Lord as soon as they get what they need from Him. Regardless of what God has given, is giving or will yet give you, do not set your heart on them, let God be your desire and primary pursuit and you will not fail in Jesus’ name.

Prayer: Lord I pray that you will help me to make you my primary pursuit and follow you till the end in Jesus’ name.
